INTELLIGENT DESIGN THEORY – CREATIONISM VS. EVOLUTION AND THE WORLD'S THREE MOST IMPORTANT YET MOST DISBELIEVED EVENTS

God and the Size of the Universe

When you think of the size of the universe, how can you  not think about God? In Jeremiah 33: 22 God says that the host of heaven cannot be numbered. How many stars can you see in the night sky? We can all count about two thousand stars on a clear night, plus or minus about five hundred.  But astronomers estimate they can see about a sextillion stars through telescopes. If you could see a million clusters of a million stars each, that would be only a billionth of the total stars the astronomers say they can see!  And the astronomers know that the size of the universe extends far beyond what they can see. How could Jeremiah have known that the stars cannot be numbered, unless God told him? If you can possibly believe the infinite intelligence of God, or comprehend His knowledge, Psalm 147: 4 says that God calls each star by name!

Can you imagine how many protons and electrons are in one star, the Sun? Can you then imagine how many electrons and protons are in the universe?  An atomic bomb consists of a few ounces of the same protons and electrons that are in stars. The sun has about two billion billion billion (2 with 33 zeros after it) tons of mass. Compare the energy in the sun to another star, Cygnus A, found in the constellation Cygnus the Swan, also known as the Northern Cross.  Grote Rebar, who identified it in 1954 as the first extragalactic object to be a radio source, discovered Cygnus A in 1944. Two clouds of electrons 50,000 light-years across emit the radio waves. The amount of energy radiated by these electron clouds in one second is equal to the amount that would be radiated by the entire Milky Way Galaxy of one hundred billion stars over a billion-year period. Scientists have not yet figured out the source of this energy.

Scientists estimate that there are about a hundred billion stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way. They estimate that they can see another one hundred billion galaxies, each having about a hundred billion stars.

Only two particles, the proton and electron comprise the entire the material universe.  To give you an idea what the size of God's universe is, one star, Alpha Hercules in the constellation Hercules is over 2.4 billion miles in diameter.  Twenty-five suns with the earth circling it at 93 million miles each could be placed in a row across the middle of Alpha Hercules.

The power contained in stars was displayed in 1054 AD when a star exploded.  Chinese astronomers recorded that it was visible in daylight for twenty-three days, though it is estimated to be 6,300 light years away.  One light year is 5 trillion, 880 billion miles, the distance light travels in one year.  6,300 light years are 37 pentillion miles.  Exploding stars are called supernovas.  During the explosion, its brightness suddenly increases by many billions, and it fades in brightness within a few weeks.  The cloud of gas and dust remnants of one of these stars is seen today as the Crab Nebula.  It is located in the Taurus the Bull constellation, and is still flying apart at speeds up to 5 million kilometers per hour (3 million miles per hour).  A supernova explosion radiates about as much energy as the sun radiates in 100 million years.  A supernova is visible in our Milky Way Galaxy once every few hundred years, and we see about fifteen a year in other galaxies through powerful telescopes.

God is infinite; His universe is infinite.  Observation of the physical universe confirms this.  Throughout space, there are galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars.  Each star most probably has planets, and most planets probably have satellite moons.  If space is infinite, there is no center to the universe, and no place from which the imaginary "Big Bang" started.  If there were, we would find space where the galaxies have not yet arrived.

Scientists tell us that the universe began with a big bang.  This is based on the assumption that there is no God.  False assumptions lead to false answers.  They say there was a tiny speck of matter, so dense, and with so much energy that it exploded and made this unfathomable, incomprehensible size of the universe of stars, planets and galaxies.  If this is true, where did all this harmonious matter and energy in the universe come from that made the "Big Bang?"  God?  Would an explosion cause the entire universe to comprise hundreds of billions of discrete galaxies, with most galaxies rotating in a harmonious pattern similar to most every other galaxy?  Would there be life on earth?  Or would there simply be particles flying uniformly through space, forming a huge spherical shell?

Inexpressibly more than one sextillion stars, some of which are hundreds of millions of miles in diameter, each containing so many trillions of tons of these two point-sources of energy: protons and electrons, that no scientist can imagine how many atoms are in the universe.  If there was only God, and nothing else existed initially, from what did God make these two particles of energy?  He must have made all the atoms of the universe out of Himself!  He must have created and brought forth all things out of Himself.

"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God (Ps. 90: 2)."  In Colossians 1: 16 - 17, we read, "For in Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist."

We cannot expect faithless evolutionists to believe this, but in Isaiah 43: 10 we read, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord . . . that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me."  God did not only say, "There was no God before me."  He said that He alone was formed.  The Hebrew word YATSAR for formed means to squeeze into a shape, to mold into a form, as a potter, fashion, frame, make.

If all things were formed out of God, the atoms must have been formed out of God.  Energy must have been formed out of God.  Light must have been formed out of God.  And man must have been formed out of God.  Thus we read, "And God said, 'Let us make man in our image, and after our likeness; so God created man in His own image, in the image of GOD created He him; male and female created He them (Gen. 1: 26 - 28)."

The name of Jesus is Emmanuel, meaning God with us.  Jesus, "Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God (Phil 2: 6)."  And when Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and it will suffice us," Jesus answered, "Have I been with you so long a time, and yet you do not know me?  He that has seen me has seen the Father (Jn. 14: 8 - 9)."  Emmanuel.  God with us.

The two basic particles of energy that God made out of Himself can take on the form of a solid rock of granite.  They can form the soft, warm pliable skin of a human, the sight or touch of which excites a mind to procreative desires.  They can take the form, texture, smell, and taste of the moist flesh of an avocado, or can vaporize an island.  These same particles of energy, when in an eyeball, produce visions in another strange combination of these same two particles, a brain.  These same two particles of energy, when located inside a skull (another combination of these two particles), can conduct thought processes or cause a heart to beat, food to digest without thought, and millions of other processes of which we are hardly aware.

Scientists claim that the energy emanating from stars is the result of a nuclear reaction.  They think that 600,000,000 tons of hydrogen in the sun is converted to helium each second, and this is then converted to carbon.  If this were so, scientists say that neutrinos would be detected coming out of the sun.  Yet none are detected, and this is one of many great mysteries of astrophysics.

We were originally made in the image of God.  But we are not God.  We were made out of atoms created by God.  And He put in us a living soul. There is still an infinite spiritual God that loves us and all His creation.  When Adam sinned, He cut Himself off from God, although he was made out of God.  Now, if we accept Jesus as God, and as the Son and Creation of God, we can talk with God.  As the apostle Paul said, "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, until Christ be formed in you (Gal. 4: 19)."  Jesus said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life . . . And this is the condemnation: that light came into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil . . . But he that does truth comes to the light that his deeds may be manifested, that they are wrought in God (Jn. 3: 16 - 21)."

When these same two particles of energy in the human brain think in harmony with God's physical expression of Himself, Jesus, they can cause the miracles that Jesus caused to occur, and greater things than that (Jn. 14: 12 - 14).

The first statement in the Bible tells us: "In the beginning - GOD!". Before there was a universe, the Bible says, there was God. Before there was matter, there were only God and His heavenly host, the angels, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. After there was matter, the Bible tells us that angels appeared in physical, material form to Abraham, Lot, Mary and many others.  Jesus was put to death, returned to His spiritual form, reappeared in His physical form, and then went back to His spiritual form. Apparently, spiritual beings can become material by taking thought, or become spiritual by taking thought.  Apparently, there was once nothing material, and God, by taking thought made a material universe.

I will tell you how I believe God created the universe, the structure of atoms, and how they relate to a perfectly harmonious universe. I believe that God is much more than the Creator of all the atoms in the universe. If we accept Jesus as God's only son that God sent to pay for our sins, God spiritually becomes our shepherd, who loves us and cares for us. He knows every hair on your head. He protects us from evil. He comforts us, feeds us in the presence of our enemies, gives to us abundantly so our cup runs over, and enables us to live with Him forever.

There is much that I don't know, such as God and the infinite size of the universe. But what I do think I know gives me a clear understanding of gravity and light. What I believe I now know about the atom leads me to also believe that gravity is surprisingly simple. You will also learn that light had infinite speed when the earth was created. And then you will understand that light is the most magnificent and extraordinary thing in our physical universe.
